Guidance and Counselling programme is based on the philosophy of developing a crop of psychologists/counsellors/therapists that are purposeful, committed, skillful and goal oriented in the provision of psychological help to those in need in the areas of education, career and socio-personal.

- B.Ed Guidance & Counselling
The Philosophy of Guidance and Counselling preparation apart from being based on the philosophy of Nigerian Education goals, is also to provide quality and competent Counsellors who can provide psychological support to those that are vulnerable, confused and maladjusted to realise who they are and to live a purposeful life.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of Guidance and Counselling preparation are to:
- Develop resource persons for careers in Guidance and Counselling both for the academic and the industry
- Equip and deepen the theoretical knowledge in Guidance and Counselling
- Prepare students as professional Counsellors recognized nationally and internationally
- Avail students of classical and modern knowledge and understanding of the best global practices and thinking of Guidance in Counselling and fiscal policies
- Serve as a preparatory ground for the Chartered Institute of Guidance and Counselling in Nigeria
- To produce counsellors competent in ICT and its use in counselling relationship.
- To produce counsellors who can compete globally in the provision of psychological support for mental health and well-being
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The general aim and objective of Education training should be in consonance with the realisation of national needs and aspirations vis-à-vis personal and national development. The graduates of Guidance and Counselling must therefore be resourceful, creative, knowledgeable and able to perform the following functions:
(a)Graduates in Guidance and Counselling
- Demonstrate adequate, appropriate and effective leadership qualities.
- Exhibit the knowledge, skills and attitudes, which will enable them to contribute to the growth and development.
- Be able to exhibit sound mastery of their subject areas and the ability to impart such knowledge to their students.
- Professionally show mastery of problem solving skills.
- Be highly motivated, conscientious and efficient counsellors for all levels of our Educational system.
- To be able to fit into the social life of the community and the society at large and enhance their commitment to national objectives.
- Internalize the intellectual and professional background, adequate for their alignment and to make them adaptable to any changing situation, not only in the life of their country but in the wide world.
- Demonstrate the spirit of enquiry, creativity and entrepreneurship.
- Enhance commitment to the counselling profession and teaching at large.
Apply the skills in the use of new technologies and counsellor education.
Departmental Board
The Departmental Board is made up of all lecturers in the Department except Graduate Assistant with the Head of Department as the Chairman. The Departmental Board organizes and controls the teaching of all courses in the Department and the examination held in those courses.

Entry Requirements
