




The Department of Geology and Mining, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences at Nasarawa State University Keffi held a workshop seminar on June 11, 2025 titled “Making Nigeria Green: Geo-Sciences and Nasarawa State in Focus.” The event took place in the University Assembly Hall and attracted a diverse audience, including the Vice Chancellor, University officials, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty, and students.
Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Vice Chancellor, delivered the Opening Remarks, emphasizing the vital role of geoscience in environmental sustainability and the promotion of green practices. She called for innovative approaches, knowledge sharing, and collaboration to tackle Nigeria’s environmental challenges, while also highlighting the significance of local initiatives.
Professor Liman noted the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change at NSUK as a key research hub aimed at addressing both environmental and climate-related issues in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Dean of the Faculty, Professor M.D. Makut, reiterated the necessity for institutions like NSUK to lead in research and innovation focused on sustainable development through environmental conservation. He expressed gratitude towards all attendees and contributors to the seminar.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor N.G. Goki, who discussed how a greener Nigeria could foster economic and innovative growth. He pointed out that geological and scientific advancements are critical for transitioning Nigeria towards renewable energy, highlighting the untapped geological resources of Nasarawa State.
The Q&A session facilitated valuable dialogue, where the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of students applying their theoretical knowledge practically. She also encouraged faculty to engage in research initiatives that yield tangible results, attributing such efforts to potential advancements in innovation and global progress.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Professor M.O. Nweze, Chairman of the Planning Committee, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the planning committee and all participants involved in the event’s success.
