In its continuous effort to broaden the scope of scholarly engagement, the Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi, on Thursday, 26th September 2025, embarked on a field trip to the Headquarters of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Abuja. The visit was aimed at understudying the operations of the Service as it relates to disaster management.
Explaining the essence of the visit, the Director of the Centre, Professor Adamu T. Ogah, explained that the purpose of the trip was to expose students and researchers of the Centre to the practical aspects of fire safety, prevention, and emergency response as carried out by the Federal Fire Service. He emphasized that the exercise was designed to bridge theory with practice, enhance experiential learning, and foster collaboration between the CDRMDS and the FFS.
Responding, the Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, expressed delight over the visit, noting that it was more than just a routine field trip but an opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-life experiences. He reiterated the pivotal role of the Service in fire safety, rescue, and emergency response across Nigeria, assuring the visitors that they would witness firsthand how theory is put into practice.
Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the researchers, the PhD Class Representative, Mr. Tijjani, appreciated the leadership and staff of the FFS for their warm reception and for granting them such a valuable learning opportunity.
Accompanying the Director on the visit were the Deputy Director of the Centre, Dr. N. L. Bala, alongside Mr. A. S. Ogah, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Olayi, and Mr. Emmanuel Shattima.
