Gov. Sule Declares ARNU 2022 Open, Decries Incessant Strike Actions in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Visitor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has decried the incessant strike actions embarked upon by industrial unions in Nigerian Universities as a threat to the survival of the university system in Nigeria.
Governor Sule made the remark while declaring open the 17th Retreat and 72nd Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) hosted by the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, on Thursday 1st December, 2022.
Governor Sule represented by the Honorable Commissioner of Education, Hajia Fatu Sabo Jimeta said the theme of the conference ” Administering Nigerian Universities of the Future, expectation and drawback” is apt, as any venture aimed at visualizing Nigerian Universities of the future will spare no effort in addressing the worrisome concerns expressed in some quarters that our Universities are changing course from citadels of learning, centers of research invention and documentation to mere outlets for the issuance of certificates.
Gov. Sule who was the special guest of honor at the occasion charged the participants to devote time in finding ways of curbing the litany of strikes and industrial unrests that not only threaten the survival of the university system but calls to question the quality of its output.
In his welcome remarks, the chief host and Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed applauded the national body of ARNU for granting NSUK the hosting rights for the 17th edition, noting that the coming together of Registrars from several Universities will provide a platform for knowledge and experience sharing.
He further added that it is only through such an exchange of ideas and best practices from respective institutions that an improved quality and service delivery in the system can be assured.
Earlier, in his welcome remark, the host and Registrar of Nasarawa State University,Keffi, Mallam Bala Isyaka Ahmed II thanked the Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed’s led management for fully funding this year’s retreat and meeting.
Bala Ahmed added that the impactful tenure of Professor Suleiman as Vice-Chancellor has completely changed the narratives and dynamics of development in the University, stressing that under his tutelage Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has broken new grounds and found new feet both locally and internationally.
There were goodwill messages from the Emir of Keffi, and the Chancellor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, HRH Alh. Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, the Emir of Nasarawa, HRH, Alh Usman Jibrin, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, represented by Dr. Hashimu Abdullahi, the ARNU National Chairman and Registrar of Federal University of Gashua, and the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia, Professor Shehu Abdulrahaman.

The Registrar of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Mallam Bala Isyaka Ahmed II is elected as the Secretary General of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities, ARNU.

This year’s event has drawn over 100 participating Registrars from all Universities in Nigeria.
