The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension is among the pioneer Departments created in the Faculty since 2004. The Department currently offers seven programmes namely:B. Agriculture; PGD Agricultural Extension and Communication; PGD Farm Management and Production Economics; M.Sc Agricultural Extension and Communication; M.Sc Agricultural Economics; PhD Agricultural Extension and Communication; and PhD Agricultural Economics. The Department has churned out many reputable graduates and postgraduates with Bachelor and M.Sc Degrees respectively. The Department, with the support of its dedicated and hardworking staff, also plays high premium on quality research and community service.
The specific objectives are:
- To train students on the socio-economic aspects of crop and livestock production
- To develop data on crop and livestock production in Nasarawa State and Nigeria in general
- To expose students to the relationship between human needs and resources, farm production system and the environment.
- To train needed manpower consistent with the requirement of an integrated research extension system and the environment.
- To accelerate the diffusion and mass adoption of new technologies among farmers in Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole, through effective linkage with the State ADP
- To develop training facilities or methods and communication technologies for imparting new farming skills to Nigerian farmers.
The Department vision is to contribute significantly in increasing agricultural productivity, improving socio-economic status of farmers and enhancing rural development in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.
Departmental Board
The Departmental Board is made up of all lecturers in the Department except Graduate Assistant with the Head of Department as the Chairman. The Departmental Board organizes and controls the teaching of all courses in the Department and the examination held in those courses.

Five O/Level credit in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and one of Geography, Physics and Economics.
