In a strategic move to strengthen minerals and energy-focused research for national development, the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, paid a working visit to the Central Mining Institute (GIG), Katowice, Poland.
During the high-level engagement, the Vice-Chancellor met with Dr. Jaroslaw Zagorowski, Director of GIG; Assoc. Professor Alicja Krzemień, President of the European Coal Agency and Head of the Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Industrial Safety; and Professor Adam Smoliński, Deputy Director for Research and Development, who also serves as an international faculty member in NSUK’s Department of Geology and Mining.
The discussions centered on mining, solid minerals, clean coal technology, renewable energy, and applied research, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to harnessing knowledge for sustainable growth in the mineral and energy sectors.
Key outcomes from the meeting include: development of joint research projects, the establishment of academic fellowships, Faculty and student exchange programmes; and the expansion of bilateral cooperation in education, research, and mineral development.
The visit marks another milestone in NSUK’s global academic partnerships, reinforcing the University’s role as a driver of innovation and knowledge exchange for Nigeria’s mineral and energy economy.
