











Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), took a significant step towards addressing global climate challenges with the inauguration of the Board of Trustees for the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change (AM3C) on Monday June 30, 2025. The Centre is dedicated to developing sustainable solutions to mitigate climate change impacts and foster resilience to evolving environmental challenges.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the University’s Council Chambers, was well-attended by key stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor, principal officers of the university, Honorable Commissioners from Nasarawa State, and both management and academic staff.
In her welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman (Fellow UNESCO ACLS, FIIFP), expressed profound gratitude to the Honorable Commissioners for their willingness to collaborate with NSUK, particularly on the AM3C initiative. She officially declared the Advisory and Academic Board members inaugurated, reaffirming the university’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the Centre’s impact within Nasarawa State and beyond. Professor Liman emphasized that this initiative aligns perfectly with NSUK’s responsibility to contribute to global efforts in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.
The event was enriched with goodwill messages from various dignitaries, including HRH the Emir of Nasarawa, Ibrahim Usman Jibril, who was represented by Dr. Ishaku Mohammed of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, members of the newly inaugurated Advisory and Academic Board, the Honorable Commissioners for Environment, Agriculture, and Women Affairs of Nasarawa State and the Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Karu, Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba who commended the initiative, expressing enthusiasm for future collaboration on this globally significant project.
Professor Olumuyiwa J. Jayeoba, the Director of the AM3C, eloquently outlined the Centre’s ambitious mission. He highlighted its envisioned role as a regional hub for excellence in climate science, education, and innovation. Professor Jayeoba underscored the critical importance of interdisciplinary research, robust stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based policy support in achieving the Centre’s far-reaching objectives.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the University Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed II, who confidently reassured all attendees of the institution’s readiness to achieve significant milestones through the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change.
The Committee’s inaugurated are the Board of Trustees of the Centre which has as its Chairman, the Emir of Nasarawa, HRH Ibrahim Usman Jibril, CON, other members are the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the DG/CEO of National Council on Climate Change Secreteriat, Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe, the Country Head of DAI, Dr. Joe Abah, Director of MacAuthur Foundation, Dr. Kole Shettima, the Registrar of NSUK, Dr. Bala Isyaka Ahmed II, and Professor Olumuyiwa James Jayeoba who will serve as the Secretary of the Board.
Also inaugurated is the Advisory Board of the Centre which has the National Project Coordinator, ACReSAL, Umar Abdulhamid as Chair of the Advisory Board, other members are Dr. Ishaku Mohammed of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Professor M.M Ari, Honorable Commissioners Environment, Agriculture, and Women Affairs, Nasarawa State. Executive Secretary Network for Agricultural Technical Education of Nigeria, NATEN, Ovie, Newton Akpona, Program Manager, Green Faith, Oko, Pius Agaji, and Professor Olumuyiwa J. Jayeoba who will serve as the Secretary of the Board.
The Academic Board inaugurated comprises of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Director Academic Planning, Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dean Faculty of Environmental Science, Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science, Director, Gender Studies, Director, ICT, and the Director of AM3C.
These comprehensive appointments reflect NSUK’s serious commitment to making the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change a leading institution in climate science, education, and innovative solutions, both regionally and nationally.
