As the academic landscape continues to evolve, seeking innovative ways to stay ahead of the curve, with technology playing an increasingly vital role in research, a workshop titled “Digital Humanities and Current Research Methodologies” was held on April 8th at the university’s postgraduate school. The event brought together academics, researchers, and postgraduate students to explore the dynamic intersection of technology and humanities, paving the way for a new era of collaborative and cutting-edge research.
Professor Adam A. Binci, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, emphasized the importance of active participation from all attendees in the discussions. The Vice Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman was ably represented by Dr. Muhammed Bawa, who highlighted the significance of the workshop’s theme.
The first keynote presentation, “Introduction to Digital Humanities and Research Ethics,” was delivered by Professor G.S. Omachonu. He traced the origins of Digital Humanities back to the 1940s. Professor E.S. Egya followed with a compelling talk on the role of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Humanities, discussing how AI has become a critical tool in enhancing research methodologies.
Dr. Tosin Olagunji concluded the series of presentations with an insightful discussion on “Academic Research Writing, Organization, and Documentation in the Humanities.” His session provided attendees with practical strategies for improving academic writing and research organization.
In the latter part of the workshop, participants suggested establishing an Artificial Intelligence lab within the university to provide students with hands-on skills. This proposal was championed by experts such as Dr. Akyala Ishaku, Dr. Pkalo Sunday, Arch. Hamisu Shehu, and Professor Abdullahi Adamu.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizing committee chairman Professor Philip Imoh, who expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and acknowledged the contributions of the school, faculty, and students.
