The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is set to collaborate with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria NAPTIN to ensure that students of Engineering background especially Electrical Electronics graduate with hands on skills as the exit the University after their studentship.

These and more formed the basis of discussions when the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, Fellow; UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFP, and her management team visited the NAPTIN Headquarters in Idu, Abuja, recently.

While stating the mission of her visit to the Institute, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman remarked that the essence of the visit was to seek partnership on how to add value to what students of the Faculty of Engineering, particularly Electrical Engineering are doing. Specifically she requested for hands on training for the Engineering students so that they will have the practical and theoretical experience which will enable be self employed and also employers of labour.

In his response, the Director of National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, NAPTIN Engr. Ahmed Bolaji Nagode decried the low level of employability of Nigerian graduates, emphasising that white collar jobs are no longer available. He added that the institute is well positioned to change the narrative. He stated students of Electrical Engineering stand to benefit from what the Institute has to offer. While expressing his readiness to ensure that the components of the Memorandum of Understanding that will signed by both Institutions will be implemented to the latter, he assured of the full cooperation of NAPTIN.

To further consolidate on the essence of the meeting, a committee was set up between the two organisations to work out a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that all deliberations and properly guided.
The highlight of the visit were presentation of souvenirs by both parties.

On the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Administration, University Librarian, the Director Institute of Capital Markets Studies, the Deputy Director Innovation and Incubation of the Entrepreneureship Development Centre, amongst other management staff that accompanied her on the visit.

The National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) is the premier institution for the Power sector Training, research and development in Nigeria established to address the critical need for skilled professionals in the power industry.
