The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman FELLOW: UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFPN has sought for the active collaboration of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and the National Directorate of Employment to reduce the number of unemployed graduates in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor made the request when she led some Principal Officers of the University on a congratulatory visit to the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment NDE, His Excellency Silas Ali Agara at the Abuja Corporate Headquarters of the Organisation.
Professor Sa’adatu stated that Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is well positioned to achieve the mandate of reducing the rate of unemployed youths as the University has one of the best Entrepreneurship Development Centres in Nigeria and also the management of the University has made it mandatory that all students of the University upon graduation should have a skill set to enable them be self reliant and not to depend on Government for non existent white collar jobs, she stated that to this end the University is willing to collaborate with the National Directorate of Employment to realise the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President in reducing unemployment and encouraging Entrepreneurship.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Director-General of NDE, H.E. Silas Ali Agara thanked the Vice-Chancellor and her entourage for honoring him with the visit which he said is very symbolic and will go a long way in cementing the relationship between the two agencies in addressing a common problem that is peculiar to the nation. Honorable Agara explained that in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Directorate is currently in the process of engaging over 90,000 unskilled and unemployed persons across Nigeria.
He maintained that under the initiative, the NDE will provide vocational, agricultural and entrepreneurial skills training with activities in the public works sector using over 30 different skill set. Further more, he added that participants in the program will be provided with start-up capital, equipment and working tools at the end of the training. The DG further stated that the Directorate is open for collaboration and Partnerships in the area of shared interests and common objectives.
The visit was climaxed with the presentation of a congratulatory roll up banner and a souvenir to the DG of the NDE.
