The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has lauded the Joseph Sarwauan Tarka University, Makurdi’s (JOSTUM) Centre For Innovation In Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (CIPESS) for its developmental activities which are adding value to the business of Governance in the state.
The Governor gave the remark at the closing/graduation ceremony of 105 civil servants sponsored by the Nasarawa State Government for a 5-Day Executive Workshop.
The workshop with the themes; Procurement Management, Supervision and Audit; Best Practices in Environmental Sustainability, and Building Social Equity in Governance, was held at the Tazu Luxury Suites, Lafia on Friday, 1st November 2024.
Governor Sule who stated that the themes of the workshop aligned with the cardinal principles of his administration in managing the environment, social equity through balanced appointments of the female gender into sensitive and critical sectors of the state and also ensuring transparency and sustainability of the reforms by being the first state to domesticate and sign into law the Procurement Act and ensure sustainability for which his administration has already created the Bureau for Public Procurement, all these are with a view to ensuring that Government gets value for what it is spending. While describing the CIPESS as developmental partners in progress, he assured that his administration continue to sponsor more civil servants in the state to such workshops.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, charged the participants to apply all the knowledge and skills they have acquired in order to inspire, motivate, and encourage their colleagues to do the same; uphold public trust by defending the highest standards of intergrity, good work ethics, transparency, uprightness, morality and accountability, and also to be agents of sustainability by integrating environmental and social consideration into every Procurement decision and taking cognisance of the peculiarities of women and people living with disabilities.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Centre Leader and Director CIPESS JOSTUM, Professor Lami Nmamonu thanked Governor Sule for his commitment to engendering transparency, accountability, and sustainability within the state government which has been an inspiration to them at CIPESS and the support for the program shows his dedication to these principles. She thanked him for championing the initiative and setting an example that values education, skill development and ethical standards, noting that the training is a significant leap forward for Nasarawa State’s journey towards ethical Governance, sustainable development and social responsibility.
The event came to a close with the presentation of certificates to the participants by the Vice-Chancellor of Vice-Chancellor of Joseph Sarwauan Tarka University, Makurdi, Engr. Professor Isaac N. Itodo, and Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, while the Executive Director of ISDEVCOM and NSUK and CIPESS State Training Coordinator, Nasarawa State, Professor Emmanuel Dandura gave the vote of thanks.
