The Nasarawa State University, Keffi and the Nigerian Metrological Agency have pledged to further deepen the ties of collaboration between the two organisations.
This formed the basis of discussions when the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman paid a courtesy call on the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMET, Professor Charles Anosike at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday 23rd July 2024.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the need to strengthen the existing Memorandum of Understand that has been signed on the 5th of February 2020 and the commissioning of a weather station and donation of weather equipment to the University.

Professor Sa’adatu further explained that as a result of the MOU, a staff of the Department of Geography Sani Usman Abubakar is currently undergoing training courtesy of NIMET in Lagos. She also used the opportunity of the visit to remind the agency of the other components of the agreement which are yet to be fulfilled.

In his response, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMET, Professor Charles Anosike while congratulating Professor Sa’adatu on her appointment as Vice-Chancellor thanked the University management for the visit. He described NSUK as a commendable partner whose contribution to the body of knowledge cannot be overlooked.

Professor Anosike while emphasizing the importance of NIMET in the provision of accurate weather data, mentioned that the Agency will soon visit the University to assess the situation of the weather stations with the aim of bolstering it to serve the purpose of giving accurate weather data to farmers and residents of Keffi and environs to enable them to make informed decisions around proper planting seasons.
The Director-General assured the management of the University of NIMET’s commitment to fulfilling all the obligations of the MOU, stressed the need for the strict implementation of the agreement by the two organisations.

The visit was climaxed with the exchange of souvenirs by the two Chief Executives.
Among the University delegation were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Theophilus Daniel Lagi, the University Librarian, Dr. Aliyu Abdulkadir, the Director, Research Innovation and Enterprise, Professor Yakubu Boyi Ngwai, the Head of the Geography Department, Professor Dalhatu Sangari, and the Director, Centre for Disaster and Risk Management Studies, Dr. Adamu Tanko Ogah.
