In a heartwarming development, the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and the Federal University of Lafia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two higher institutions of learning engaging and benefitting from local and inter-University collaborations.
The signing of the MOU is coming on the backdrop of the recent call by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities on the need for Universities to grow local linkages amongst themselves with a view of developing local mobility programs between staff and students, enhance knowledge and equipment sharing, as well as better research outputs.
Speaking during the signing ceremony that took place on Wednesday 26th June 2024 at the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman who signed on behalf of her University stated that the collaboration has started yielding results for the two Institutions, she explained that already NSUK has won an all-expense Erasmus+ scholarship for Nursing, but because the University does not offer Nursing and arising from the Inter-University Linkage that exists between the two Universities, NSUK has ceded the opportunity to FULafia to Utilise.
In his remark, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Partnerships of the Federal University of Lafia, Professor Samaila Dakyes, who also signed the MOU on behalf of his University described the event as one that holds a lot of benefits for the two Universities, he reiterated that FULafia is already reaping the fruits of the partnership, he called for the sustenance of the pact to allow for more deliverables for the two schools.
Adding his voice at the memorable event, the Director of Linkages and International Cooperation of NSUK, Dr. K’tso Nghargbu stated that with the signing of the MOU, both Universities stand to gain from each other’s comparative advantage. He stressed that these benefits will come in handy during Accreditation exercises where both institutions can utilise staff and facilities of each other Universities and explore areas of further collaboration.
Dr. K’tso further explained that as a result of the collaboration, Ms. Favour Sadiq, the first beneficiary of the pact and a Nursing student of the Federal University of Lafia will enjoy the Erasmus+ scholarship worth 7 Million Naira. The scholarship will enable her to travel to Poland for one semester.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Abdullahi Sallau Modibbo, the Registrar Dr. Bala Isyaka Ahmed II, the University Librarian, Dr. Aliyu Abdulkadir and the Director of Linkages and Advancement of the Federal University of Lafia, Dr. Fatima Adamude.
