The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed has pledged to support the winning duo of Faith Gimba (300 Level) and Mathew Jude Obinna (100 Level) to travel to the Maastricht University in the Netherlands to participate in the NCICC world competition in April 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor made the pledge when he received the victorious law students in his office on Monday 20th February 2023.
Professor Suleiman congratulated the students for making the University and Faculty of Law proud, noting that they have written their names in gold. He stated that the University will sponsor the two students and a staff member of the faculty for the annual edition coming up in April, he urged them to commence early preparations to enable them to emerge victorious on the world stage.
The Vice-Chancellor also praised the efforts of Ms. Faith Gimba who is the current Vice-President of the Students Union Government for astutely combining students unionism and academics flawlessly.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor J. O Adedoyin-Raji said the National Client Interviewing and Counselling Skills Competition NCICC is an annual competition organized by the Network of University Legal Aid Institution NULAI and is open to participation from law students representing various law clinics within Nigeria.
Professor Raji further stated that this year’s edition with the topic “Environmental Law” was held both virtually and physically at Baze University, Abuja, and saw the NSUK-Law clinic beating the KSU-Law clinic and ECU Law clinic to clinch the first position, a feat that was achieved in 2019 by the duo of Paul Ebuka Nwaokolo and Gloria Arenson Ogbason.
The NCICC competition aims to help students develop the invaluable skills of interviewing and counseling which will in turn ensure effective interaction with clients when they become actual lawyers.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of certificates to Faith Gimba and Mathew Jude Obinna by the Vice-Chancellor and a compendium to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Law Clinic.
Accompanying the students at the ceremony was Mr. Alex Epu, the coordinator of the Law Clinic, and Aliyu Husseini the team coach.
