
Dr.Yahaya Mohammed was born in Loko, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, He attended the prestigious Government College Keffi, North East College of Arts and Science Maiduguri for his O’ and A’ Levels. He obtained his B.Sc (Applied Chemistry) from the University of Jos, and M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Inorganic Chemistry from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Open University of Nigreria (NOUN), He joined the services of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in June 2006. He was the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of Nasarawa State University from September 2018 to November 2020, Director of Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) from November 2021 to July 2024. He was appointed the Dean of Students’ Affairs from July 2024, a position he is holding till date. A widely travelled man, he has attended many local and International Conferences, some of which under the auspices of the Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE). He has over 50 scholarly publications to his credit. He is married to 2 wives with children,

Profile of Students’ Affairs Division
The Students’ Affairs Division is a department in the University that is responsible for supporting students’ academic, personal, and social development. It encompasses various services aimed at fostering students success and well-being, including academic advising, career services, counselling, students’ welfare etc.
The Students’ Affairs Division of Nasarawa State University Keffi provide the following services to students:
Students’ Welfare: This services is provided in form of welfare support to indigent students, and students experience issues that can affect their academic pursuit;
Co-ordination of activities of Students’ Unions, Clubs, Societies and Associations and Movements by registering them, and ensuring that their activities are carried out in line with the approved Constitution and or Bye-Laws;
Coordination of Recreational & Sporting Activities: NUGA Games, Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, Deans Cup, all sporting activities like Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Base Ball, Gymnasium, Sporting Competitions within and outside the University;
Advise Management on Policies, Regulations, and any matter affecting students;
Help to develop students’ cultural and social activities on campus;
Coordinate the award of scholarships, bursary, and financial aids to students;
Coordinate the setting up (elections) and administration of Students Union/Association/Clubs/Societies Leadership on Campus;
Provide career information, Guidance & Counselling;
Register all Students clubs, associations, and societies on annual basis to enable them operate legitimately.
Follow-up on Management of students with delinquent/criminal tendencies to make them better students through mentorship and counselling;
Mobilization of graduates of the University for the National Youth Service Corp Scheme;
Annually organize Orientation Programme for New students of the University;
Management and allocation of hostel accommodation;
Liaison with stakeholders and outside agencies on matters relating to students;
Settle disputes amongst students, liaison between landlords and the students on matters relating to off campus accommodation;
Design and conduct surveys to identify students’ needs in order to provide database of students’ needs, identify patterns of issues facing students, advise the University accordingly;
Working along with Heads of Departments to monitor students’ academic performance and intervene where and when necessary;
Develop/design preventive and corrective measures for deviant behaviours by students;
Implementing and delivering career discovery programmes;
Conduct individual and group guidance and counselling sessions with students to help:
Adjust to the school environment;
Behavioural and emotional problem;
Manage peer group pressure;
Overcome problems that emerge amongst students as they emerge;
Refer students requiring the aid of specialist;
Keep personal, anecdotal and cumulative records of students;
Participate as requested in research projects or may initiate own research investigation and keep abreast of research been reported by other people in the field;
Creation of welfare scheme and support for students living with disability;
