Dr. Adehi Mary Unekwu (LSM) has been a lecturer with Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria since 2013. She is a recurring decimal, in terms of her education, of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria since 1993. Apart from being a statistician, she belongs to & works diligently in the Catholic community, she is a seasoned educationist, a lover of children & founder and president of North Elementary and High school, Kano (2003-2013). She served as deputy director, directorate of linkages & International cooperation from 2021 to 2023 here in NSUK, during the period, she promoted visibility of the institution among other things. She has several publications in books & journal articles. She is proficient in research development & has supervised many students, undergraduates & postgraduates.

As Ag. Head of the Statistics Department, apart from primary commitments, she promotes collaboration, discipline & mentorship among staff & students. She has, during this period, together with her staff, hosted a successful conference of the Professional Statisticians Society of Nigeria, of which she is the National Social Secretary; also facilitated a successful accreditation process for the Statistics programme. She is happily married and blessed with children.
The Department of Statistics at Nasarawa State University, Keffi strives to give to the students a high-quality education. The department offers BSc. degree Statistics. The different areas in Statistics further provide concentration in sub-areas that students may choose from depending on their interest. The department serves the needs of the students throughout Nigeria by offering programmes that prepare them with applied knowledge and practical skills in Statistics. It also promote critical thinking, creative problem solving and helps them develop effective communication and entrepreneurial skills.
As part of this mission, the lecturers engage in applied, integrative, collaborative and pedagogical scholarship. Statistics, of course is at the core of humanities, science and the bedrock of scientific development. The BSc. degree programme in Statistics is designed with core courses provide breadth and depth in the field together with well-structured applied component. The programme includes courses in mathematics, physics, computer science as well as general education requirement in the humanities with core statistics courses that provide depth and breadth in the field. The programme has a large applied component in areas such as the industry.
Core courses for the BSc programme in Statistics include Operations research, Descriptive Statistics, Inference Theory, Probability, Econometrics, Biometrics, Demography, Regression Analysis, Bayesian Theory, Statistical Quality control, Biostatistics, Statistical inference etc. The programme has a large applied component.
The curricular of the Department of Statistics is designed to provide the student the opportunity to prepare him/herself for specialized professional studies.
These curricular leads to the honours degree of Bachelor of Sciencesat the end of four years of studies.
The programmes are so designed to provide solid academic background knowledge for higher degrees if so desired. The program has a lot of inter-relationships with Mathematics and Computer Science in the first two years of study
The Department places special emphases on the practical components, projects and industrialattachment for all the students in general.
The Department of Statistics, Nasarawa State University, Keffi has set for itself the following objectives:
- To accomplish outstanding research in Statistics and their applications which are fundamental and useful to scientific development.
- To provide an excellent education in Statistics for undergraduate students that is of the highest international standards
- To recognize and respond to the changing needs of the society through specific high quality research, teaching programmes and initiatives
- To instill in students a sense of enthusiasm for Statistics, an appreciation of its application in different areas and to involve them in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.
- To provide students a broad and balanced foundation in statistics knowledge and practical skills in statistics , mathematics and computer science
- To develop in students the ability to apply their Statistics knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in statistics.
- To develop in students through an education in Statistics, a range of transferable skills of value in Statistics related and non-statistics related employment.
- To provide students with knowledge and skills base from which they can proceed to further studies in specialized areas of statistics or multi-disciplinary areas involving statistics
- To generate in students an appreciation of the importance of statistics in an industrial and economics environment.
