In a significant move toward bridging the gap between academia and national defense, the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, hosted participants of the Senior Course 48 from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The visit, which is part of a strategic study tour, focused on the theme: “Promoting Community Engagement for Enhanced National Security and Prosperity.”

Welcoming the delegation to the University Senate Chamber, Professor Liman emphasized that modern security challenges require more than just tactical intervention; they necessitate a deep-rooted partnership with the community. She argued that effective engagement centered on trust-building, information sharing, and youth empowerment is the most potent tool for reducing violent crime, radicalization, and hostility toward security agencies.

“Security remains a collective responsibility that requires active collaboration among the military, communities, and academic institutions,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

Professor Liman highlighted the unique strengths of tertiary institutions in the security architecture, citing NSUK’s expertise in:

  • Research and Data Analysis
  • Peace and Conflict Studies
  • Capacity Building and Conflict Resolution

She proposed the institutionalization of joint community security forums, collaborative training on community policing, and the development of early warning systems. These initiatives, she noted, would not only curb insurgency but also improve the investment climate and support sustainable national growth.

The Team Lead of the delegation, Brigadier General T.J. Makintosh, explained that the choice of NSUK for the study tour was deliberate. The College is currently conducting research on community engagement as a tool for security within Keffi, Nasarawa State, and the broader Nigerian context.

Brigadier General Makintosh lauded the Vice-Chancellor for her “insightful presentation” and encouraged the University to leverage its communication channels as strategic assets for national stability.

“We all have critical roles to play in this,” the General remarked, reaffirming the College’s commitment to fostering a long-term partnership with the University.

The engagement concluded with an exchange of honors and tokens of appreciation. Brigadier General Makintoch presented a prestigious award to Professor Liman on behalf of the College. The University also presented delegation members with souvenir packs to commemorate the tou
The event ended with a group photograph involving University Principal Officers and the Senior Course 48 participants.

By hosting this high-level military delegation, Nasarawa State University reinforces its standing as a “Pacesetter” institution, actively contributing intellectual and strategic resources to the nation’s security and prosperity.
