Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has recorded another major national recognition as one of its distinguished professors, Professor Uche Uwaleke, has been appointed by the Federal Government to serve on the newly inaugurated Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) on the Economy.

The committee, inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, is made up of eminent economists, public finance experts, governance professionals and private sector leaders tasked with strengthening economic policymaking and accelerating the implementation of the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms.

Professor Uwaleke, who is also the President of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria (CMAN) and a renowned Professor of Capital Market, and the Director of the Institute of Capital Market Studies at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, joins other distinguished members of the committee, including the Managing Director of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman; Chief Executive Officer of Economic Associates, Dr. Ayo Teriba; and the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr. Chinyere Almona.

Speaking during the inauguration, Mr. Oyedele described the committee as a strategic public-private partnership established to bridge the gap between economic policy formulation and implementation. He explained that members would provide independent, evidence-based advice to support government decisions and ensure that ongoing reforms translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

According to the Minister, the committee will assess the impact of government policies on businesses and households, recommend timely policy adjustments where necessary, and provide strategic guidance on economic policy, fiscal management, stakeholder engagement and economic coordination. He noted that the advisory body would play a vital role in advancing the Federal Government’s vision of achieving a seven per cent annual economic growth rate and building a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030.

The appointment of Professor Uwaleke is an attestation to his longstanding contributions to economic research, capital market development and public policy in Nigeria. Widely respected for his expertise in financial markets and fiscal policy, he has consistently provided informed analysis on national economic issues and has remained a leading voice in shaping economic discourse.

His selection further reinforces Nasarawa State University, Keffi’s growing reputation as a hub for academic excellence, impactful research and national policy engagement. It also reflects the university’s commitment, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to producing scholars whose expertise continues to influence national development and public policy.

The university community congratulates Professor Uche Uwaleke on this well-deserved appointment and expresses confidence that his wealth of knowledge and experience will significantly contribute to the committee’s mandate of promoting sustainable economic growth and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
