Welcome to Department of Animal Science, our business here is animal agriculture, the department runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to awards of B.Agric, M.Sc and PhD in some fields of Animal Science.
The Department of Animal Science is one of the six academic Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University, Keffi Lafia Campus. The Department has facilities and expertise to offer courses and conduct research in the areas on non-ruminant and ruminant animal production, breeding, and genetics and ruminant animal products. The courses in the Department are designed to equip students with the methodology and basic skills for boosting livestock productivity. Research activities are also directed towards a rapid solution of the problems confronting the developing Nigerian Livestock industry.

The Department’s vision is to contribute substantially to the stable development of the livestock industry, thus promoting food self-sufficiency and improvement in the nutrition and health standard of the teeming populace of Nasarawa State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The Department is poised to turn out high quality and enterprising graduates of immense significance to the sustainable development of the livestock sub-sector of the economy.
Departmental Board
The Departmental Board is made up of all lecturers in the Department except Graduate Assistant with the Head of Department as the Chairman. The Departmental Board organizes and controls the teaching of all courses in the Department and the examination held in those courses.
Entry Requirements
Five O/Level credits in Agricultural Science or Chemistry, Biology, English Language, Mathematics and one of Physics, Geography and Economics.
