The Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), participated as an observer in a two-week intensive national training programme on Incident Command Systems organized under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The training, tagged the Gold, Silver and Bronze Incident Commanders Courses, was held from 29 June to 10 July 2026. It was jointly organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and the Presidential Communications, Command and Control Centre (PC4), both under the Office of the National Security Adviser, in collaboration with the British High Commission (BHC).
The programme was designed to equip participants with the strategic, operational, and tactical competencies required of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Incident Commanders in managing national emergencies and crises. It also sought to enhance awareness of multi-agency interoperability, strengthen command structures, and improve decision-making processes during national crisis response operations.
The courses were facilitated by experts from the Presidential Communications, Command and Control Centre (PC4) and the United Kingdom Joint Counter Terrorism Training and Advisory Team, bringing together participants from key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) involved in crisis management and emergency response across Nigeria.
Representing Nasarawa State University, Keffi, the Director and Deputy Director of the Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies attended the programme as observers.
Their participation underscores the University’s commitment to advancing capacity building, strengthening institutional expertise in disaster risk management, and fostering collaboration with national and international stakeholders in security, emergency preparedness, and resilience.
The exposure gained from the programme is expected to further enrich the Centre’s academic, research, and professional engagements in disaster risk reduction, crisis management, and sustainable development, while reinforcing NSUK’s growing role as a leading institution in addressing contemporary security and development challenges.
