The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, recently attended the celebration of Portugal’s National Day (Dia de Portugal) in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships and expand the University’s global engagement.

The high-profile diplomatic event attracted ambassadors, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and international development partners, providing a unique platform for fostering collaborations and advancing mutual interests.

During the celebration, Professor Liman reconnected with longstanding friends of NSUK within the diplomatic community and engaged in productive discussions aimed at deepening existing international relationships. She highlighted the University’s recent achievements and reaffirmed NSUK’s commitment to internationalisation, academic excellence, and the development of globally competitive graduates.

A major highlight of the Vice-Chancellor’s participation was her advocacy for enhanced support for the University’s European Studies Programme. In discussions with Portuguese diplomatic representatives, Professor Liman sought assistance in the deployment of qualified Portuguese language instructors and the provision of relevant teaching resources to strengthen language education at NSUK.

She noted that such support would significantly enhance students’ linguistic proficiency, broaden their understanding of European cultures and international relations, and create pathways for future academic exchanges and collaborative research initiatives between NSUK and institutions in Portugal.

The Vice-Chancellor further emphasized that language acquisition remains a critical tool for global engagement, diplomacy, and cross-cultural understanding, adding that strengthening Portuguese language studies would position NSUK students to take advantage of emerging opportunities within Europe and other Portuguese-speaking countries.

The proposals received positive responses from members of the diplomatic community, who commended NSUK’s proactive approach to international cooperation and academic development.

Professor Liman’s participation in the Portugal National Day celebration reflects the University’s growing profile within international academic and diplomatic circles and underscores its determination to build strategic partnerships that will enhance teaching, research, and global opportunities for staff and students.
