The Theatre Arts Department of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, won gold in the Narrative Dance category at the just-concluded National Universities Theatre Arts Festival (NUTAF) at the Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State.
The Dean Faculty of Arts, Professor Gideon Omachonu, accompanied by the Head of Department, Dr. Suru Damisa, presented the trophy and other laurels won by the NSUK contingent to the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday.
The NSUK delegation excelled in six competitive events, including a silver medal in Drum Ensemble, silver medal in Carnival Procession, silver in Costume Design, and Live Presentation of Indigenous, Fabrics.
Others are a bronze medal in Spoken Word and certificates for the Best Technical Director of the Year and Best Costumier of the Year.
In his response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed thanked the contingent for making the University proud and showcasing to the broader world the potentials of the University.
He also expressed gratitude to the new Dean of the Faculty for his purposeful leadership in the Faculty.
The Vice-Chancellor equally lauded the efforts of the Head of Department and the Staff Adviser of the department for the roles they played in ensuring that the NSUK team emerged victorious at the event.
Prof. Suleiman pledged to reward the winning team and assured the Department of his support at all times.
Others on the delegation who visited the Vice-Chancellor include the Staff Adviser & Technical Director of the troupe, Dr. Chikada James, and a senior lecturer & former Head of Department Hajia Lantana Ahmed.
The Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Festival popularly tagged ‘NUTAF’ is an annual festival which evolved from the cocoon of the Nigerian Theatre Arts Students Association (NUTASA) in 1981.
The festival is a platform which is aimed at exposing the students to theory and practice in the performing Arts training in Nigeria. During the festive events, they are engaged in dramatizing and celebrating cultural rejuvenation, healthy competition, social engineering, national rebirth, love, peace, and unity.
