The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mallam Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, has tasked new inductees of the institute to contribute their quota in nation-building.
Mallam Sirajo gave the charge at the induction and swearing-in ceremony of the new members at the School of Postgraduate Studies Auditorium, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, on Thursday.
He noted that with the current challenges facing the nation, the new inductees are expected to use the instrumentality of public relations to galvanise relationships and break down walls that inhibit friendships with the ultimate aim of forging unity among Nigerians.
Earlier, during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, the NIPR state chairman and a fellow of the institute, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, informed him that they were in the University to induct new staff members, among them are two staff of the Vice-Chancellors office, and postgraduate students of the University into the prestigious institute.
The NIPR Chairman also made a case for the reactivation of an existing Memorandum of Understanding signed with the University.
In the MoU, the NIPR will endow a professorial chair, while the University will set up a Public Relations School in the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication ISDEVCOM.
Mallam Sirajo expressed satisfaction with the management of the University for complying with extant laws by engaging staff who are members of the institute in managing the university's public relations.
Responding, Professor Suleiman thanked Mallam Mukhtar Sirajo and the leadership of the NIPR for bringing the induction ceremony to Keffi, he also expressed delight that two of his staff members and students of the University will enjoy the rare privilege of being inducted in Keffi.
Professor Suleiman assured the leadership of the NIPR that the earlier MoU signed between the two institutions will be implemented.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of an award of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor by the President and Chairman NIPR Governing Council.
