
Director
The Institute was approved by the Senate of Nasarawa State University during its 108th regular meeting. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, in his wisdom, appointed the following staff to oversee the affairs of the Institute:
Dr. Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, a former Clerk of the National Assembly, a seasoned technocrat, and an erudite scholar. As a former Clerk of the National Assembly with vast experience in legislative procedures, processes, and ethics, he has designed programs and training for capacity building and election administration for candidates seeking skills and knowledge for democratic consolidation.
Deputy Director: Associate Professor Mohammed Bello Baban’umma, a former head of the Political Science department, is appointed to assist the Director in the day-to-day administration of the Institute. Both the Director and his Deputy have come together to ensure that the Institute’s mandate is to become a world-class institution for democratic consolidation, not only in Nigeria but also globally.
“Knowledge for Democratic Consolidation.” This vision aligns with the university’s mission to encourage and enable individuals to develop their full potential by providing a stimulating learning environment encompassing a wide range of relevant educational activities, fostering efficient, dedicated, and selfless service in Nigeria.

- To serve as an excellent institute for research on democratic studies and legislative practices and procedures.
- To sensitize the Nigerian public to embrace, support, and defend democratic and legislative ethics and procedures.
- To undertake other responsibilities related to the development, consolidation, and advancement of legislative and democratic governance in Nigeria and Africa.
- To conduct periodic short and refresher training and capacity building on legislative procedure, legislative ethics, election management, election observation, political party management, party politics, and its administration in Nigeria.
- To award appropriate professional and academic certificates in line with Nasarawa State University standards, vision, and mission.
